The air in London before the 1950’s Clean Air Acts of Parliament was smoky, sooty, and generally toxic. On cold windless nights it all combined to form the infamous ” London Pee Soup” or Smog.
From the 1880’s to the 1950’s the air quality in London was so poor it stained all the brickwork.
Victorian london was built largely of 3 different brick types or a combination of these 3 as stated below :
- 1.BRIGHT YELLOW LONDON STOCK
- 2.SOFT RED RUBBERS
- 3.PALE YELLOW ‘GAULTS’
Time and Pollution has had a different effect on each type but all 3 can be made to look as new.
In the current times we use 3 main methods of cleaning heavily stained brickwork.
We have over 23 Years experience in choosing the method most appropriate to the brick type, age and condition.
Happily London air quality is now good and improving by the day.
